Day 1.We arrived in Medellin on the morning of Jan 22nd. After checking in at El Cielo and having breakfast, we headed to Guatape, which was a 2 hour drive. Guatape, is a resort town with El Penol rock
My friend saw a street vendor selling this and was excited to buy them. This a gelatin made from cow’s feet. I’m not gonna lie, me being an outsider and in Colombia, I thought this was something else.
The first thing we did was check out the man-made reservoir. The captain showed us this house in the middle which was owned by Pablo Escobar. He used this house specifically to kill people.
Pablo Escobar’s house
Pablo’s enemies apparently used 250 sticks of dynamite in order to kill him. However, he was not at this house at the time.
As I stated this was a man made reservoir. The power company filled this area with water to help power the region. Before, there was a village here. The power company rebuilt a new village about 30 mins away from here. This cross is from the church from the village.
The story behind this rock is that it was owned by this guy. There was a bar at the base of the rock and the guy and his friends would get drunk and attempt to climb the rock. The owner started to build stairs one by one to get to the top. There are over 700 steep steps. I took a few pics from up there but will keep them to myself.
